Special Touches

There are many different types of pecan pies ranging from the traditional pie crafted from a mixture of sugar, corn syrup, eggs and some flavorings, to those that incorporate chocolate, coconut and other ingredients. While a traditional style pie features a flaky pie flour based pie crust, there are variations and delicious pies that use alternate crusts and even no crust at all. One key to successful pie making and baking in general is to use fresh, high-quality ingredients. The best ingredients give you the best opportunity to be successful and likely, a delicious finished baked good.

Once you have created your delicious dessert, there are plenty of ways to take your dessert offering to a whole new level. One way is presentation. Use your imagination and be creative in the dish you bake your pie in, and the dishes you deliver individual servings on. Consider baking individual pies for a more personal touch. Before plating individual servings, sprinkle tiny bits of pecan or chocolate sprinkles on the plate and then place your pie. Once you’ve plated your pie garnish with a small piece of mint or some chocolate shavings.

One nice touch, and something most pie lovers enjoy, is whipped topping. A dollop of whipped cream adds another layer of flavor and a whole new texture. Homemade whipped cream can be prepared in minutes and the extra effort is well worth it. Top whipped cream with a dusting of freshly grated cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor and visual appeal.

A nice, rich, scoop of vanilla ice cream is an essential part of the pecan pie experience. It is hard to argue. The two go together very well. Opt for a high-quality vanilla ice cream or make your own delicious ice cream in the comfort of your own kitchen.
